In 1684 Herbert Kennedy was teaching at Edinburgh University, instructing third year students of the Classis Baccalaureorum, or Bachelor Class, who studied chiefly ethics and mathematics. In 1685 he had charge of the fourth year students of Classis Magistrandorum, or Magistrand Class, studying physics and astronomy.
